HSV sign Daniel Heuer Fernandes

The 26-year-old goalkeeper joins from SV Darmstadt 98 and has signed a deal until 2022.

Hamburger SV have added a new goalkeeper in Daniel Heuer Fernandes. The 26-year-old joins from fellow second division side Darmstadt 98 and has signed a three-year deal. “We were able to get a really good transfer with Daniel Heuer Fernandes,” said head of sport Jonas Boldt. “We’re getting a player with a positive outlook and solid character with great goalkeeper skills. Daniel is currently at the perfect age for a goalkeeper—he is experienced, but can still develop himself further. We are expecting the addition of him, together with our new goalkeeping coach Kai Rabe, to give our keeper team a definite boost.”

This past season, Heuer Fernandes featured in 34 matches for Darmstadt 98, and didn’t miss a single minute. Portugal’s former U21 keeper has also stood between the posts for SC Paderborn and VfL Osnabrück. The Bochum native, who played for Bochum’s youth academy, has featured in 60 third division matches, 75 second division games, and made seven Bundesliga appearances. “HSV are the next step for me,” said the 26-year-old. “I’m really looking forward to the club, the stadium, and the fans. I want to give it my all for the team, be successful at HSV, and continue to develop myself further. I have big aims and can’t wait to finally get started.”
