HSV sign David Møller Wolfe on loan
The Norwegian international left-back joins HSV from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Claus Costa: “David brings a lot of quality and has a great character. He is a well-rounded full-back who combines physical strength and athleticism and plays with high intensity.”
A transfer hat-trick at the Volkspark: Following the signings of Zakaria El Ouahdi and Fabio Vieira, Hamburger SV have also secured the services of Norway international David Møller Wolfe on the final day of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old left-back joins the Rothosen on loan for the 2026/27 season from Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were relegated from the Premier League last season. Møller Wolfe underwent his medical examinations at the Athleticum at the Volkspark on Tuesday (1 September) before subsequently signing his contract.
“With David, we are bringing in a player who has experience at both club and international level and who most recently demonstrated his qualities on football’s biggest stage at the World Cup. He adds further depth to our squad and gives us greater flexibility in our play. David is a highly professional and reliable team player. He has a very calm, grounded and positive personality. That means he will fit into the team very well and should be able to settle in quickly. We are delighted to welcome another new face to HSV,” explains Board Member for Sport Kathleen Krüger.
Sporting Director Claus Costa adds, with regard to the playing profile of the 1.85-metre-tall left-footer: “David brings a lot of quality and has a great character. With his proactive style of play, energetic runs and defensive qualities, he is an excellent fit for our team and gives us additional options in our game. We are delighted that we were able to convince him of the path we are on.”
Møller Wolfe has been Norway’s first-choice left-back since making his international debut in November 2023. The 24-year-old has made 27 appearances for his country, scoring one goal and providing five assists. Most recently, he took part in the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States alongside HSV goalkeeper Sander Tangvik, starting each of his five appearances at the tournament.
The defender hails from the Norwegian city of Bergen, where he was born on 23 April 2002. He broke into the first team at hometown club SK Brann in 2021 before moving to Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar two years later. Last year, he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers, playing in the Premier League before the club were relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. Møller Wolfe leaves Wolves having made 29 competitive appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists, and will now wear the diamond on his chest and the number 3 shirt.
“After speaking with Claus and Merlin, I knew I really wanted to come here. I have never felt so wanted by a club in my career, and I firmly believe that this could be a great fit. It is the right step for me to continue developing and become the player I want to be.
