HSV sign Jairo Samperio

The 24-year-old Spanish wide-man has signed a one year deal with die Rothosen.

Hamburg have completed their fifth new signing. After undergoing a medical in the UKE, Jairo Samperio signed a one year deal on Thursday (5th July). “Jairo fits the bill perfectly for what we want. He is a very versatile attacking player. With him, we have an experienced player who is used to German football and still has potential to improve further”, explained sporting director Ralf Becker, who is delighted about the new addition to the squad. Between 2014 and 2017, the 5ft 7” attacker played 72 Bundesliga games for 1. FSV Mainz 05, with eleven goals and 14 assists to his name. Most recently he has been plying his trade in the Primera Division with Las Palmas, where his contract ran out on 30th June. The Spanish U21 international has therefore moved to HSV on a free transfer.

Europa League winners with Sevilla

Since Samperio made his debut in the Primera Division in 2011, aged 18, he has consistently played at top-flight level in Spain and Germany, even winning the UEFA Europa League in 2014 with Sevilla. However, Jairo has now chosen to take the step into the second division. “I am totally convinced by the path that HSV’s leadership, Christian Titz and Ralk Becker, have put in front of me” he said, “and I’m excited for the games, the competition and the fight for promotion back to the Bundesliga. I want to start from scratch here at Hamburg and play a decisive role on the pitch.” Jairo Samperio will travel with the team on Sunday to their Austrian training camp.
