HSV sign Luka Vuskovic on loan
The 18-year-old centre-back joins the Rothosen from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Stefan Kuntz: “We’re very happy that Luka has chosen us.”
Hamburger SV have strengthened their defence in the final week of the transfer window by bringing in centre-back Luka Vuskovic. The talented Croatian youngster joins on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the 2025/26 season. The younger brother of Mario Vuskovic completed his medical at the UKE Athleticum on Thursday (28th August) before signing his contract at the Volksparkstadion, where he was warmly welcomed by plenty of familiar faces.

“We worked hard over the past few weeks to bring Luka here and we’re very happy that he’s decided to take his next step with HSV,” said board member for sport Stefan Kuntz. “Through Mario he already has a close bond with the club and the city, and we want to build on that. As talented as he is, the key will be to give him the environment to continue his development in the best possible way.”
Director of football Claus Costa added: “We’ve been following Luka’s progress closely in recent years and we’re pleased the opportunity for a loan has now come up. He’s an excellent fit for us both as a player and as a person. For his age he already has an outstanding overall package. With his physical presence, aerial ability and strength in duels, he will immediately add presence to our back line. At the same time, he’s brave on the ball and a threat from set pieces. That makes him a modern centre-back who is already very advanced for his age. But he’s still only 18 and has a lot of development ahead of him. We want to give him the space here at HSV to take the next step in his career.”

Luka Vuskovic, born in Split on 24th February 2007, came through the youth ranks at local club Hajduk Split – just like his brother Mario, who is five years older. Luka made his first-team debut there in February 2023 at just 16 years and two days old, becoming the youngest player in the Croatian top flight alongside Marko Dabro. He has represented Croatia at every youth level and made his first appearance for the senior national team this year.
The 1.93-metre-tall defender is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents. Tottenham secured his signature at the end of 2023 on a contract running until 2030. He first went out on loan to Polish top-flight side Radomiak Radom, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals, before spending last season with Belgian club KVC Westerlo, where he played 36 competitive matches, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. Now comes the next step in the Bundesliga, in an environment he already knows well. “I couldn’t wait to get here. It’s something special for me to play for HSV, not only because my brother played here and told me so much about the club, but also because of its history, the fans and the conditions here. I’m very happy,” said Vuskovic after signing. “I can’t wait to meet my teammates and experience the fans in the stadium,” added the defender, who will wear the number 44 shirt for HSV.
