HSV sign Mergim Mavraj

The Albanian international has joined the Rothosen from Bundesliga rivals 1. FC Köln (Cologne) and has agreed terms on a deal which expires on June 30th 2019.

HSV have made an opening swoop during the winter transfer window, announcing the signing of Mergim Mavraj from Cologne. The 1,89 m. tall central defender underwent and passed a medical examination in Hamburg on December 23, before putting pen to paper on a deal which will last until June 30th 2019. HSV have secured the services of a much needed strong tackling central defender with a wealth of international and Bundesliga experience.

Mavraj joined Cologne from SpVgg Greuther Fürth to Cologne at the start of the 2014/15 season, making 27 Bundesliga appeances in the two and a half years since. This season he has been almost an ever-present for Cologne making 16 appearqances until the winter break. Mavraj has 29 caps to his name, and aplayed the full 90 minutes of Albania’s European Championship campaign in France last summer.

The defender told HSV.de this week: “I am relishing playing for HSV during the impending second half of the season. HSV is a big club and their management clearly stated my role at the club during transfer discussions. It makes me proud that the club have placed their trust in me to further help the team. I can’t wait to join the team in January. I will give my all to help the team and face the challenge full on.”
