HSV sign Sejad Salihovic

The 32 year old Bosnian midfielder has signed a season-long contract which expires on June 30th 2018. He trained with the first team for the first time on Wednesday (13.09).

On Wednesday, the club announced the signing of Sejad Salihovic who has agreed terms on a deal which lasts for the rest of the new season. The transfer outside the transfer window which recently closed is possible because Salihovic was between clubs after returning to Germany from a spell in China: "Sejad is a seasoned Bundesliga pro, who has proven his qualities for many years and can be played in various positions. He can help us in the short term", explained HSV sport boss Jens Todt.

After losing key men Nicolai Müller, Aaron Hunt, Filip Kostic and Rick van Drongelen to injury, the club decided on adding a further player to the squad. Rothosen head coach Markus Gisdol knows Salihovic from their time together in Hoffenheim and of course knows what kind of qualities he brings to the table.

Salihovic has 176 Bundesliga games to his name, scoring 46 goals and also 36 assists in the process while under contract at Bundesliga clubs Hoffenheim and Hertha BSC Berlin. Two years ago he went to China to play for BJ Renhe for whom he played until February this year. The former Bosnian international (47 caps, 4 goals) then joined Swiss side FC St. Gallen for six months. The attacking midfielder had recently been keeping himself fit at his former club Hoffenheim, where he at first trained with the reserves but trained with the first team squad for the last fortnight. He also scored four goals in a friendly against local minnows Friedrichshall. Now it hoped that he will become a valuable addition to the HSV squad. He will wear the number 23 on his back for the Rothosen.
