HSV signs David Kinsombi

The 23-year-old Kiel midfielder has signed a four-year deal with Hamburger SV.

Hamburger SV have added another player to their squad after today announcing the signing of current Kiel captain David Kinsombi to a four-year contract until 2023. Kinsombi has been with the club since 1 July 2018, and is currently out injured after fracturing his tibia in January. His recovery has been progressing steadily, leading to hopes that he could be back in action before the end of this season.

During his time as Kiel’s sporting director, HSV sporting director Ralf Becker worked with Kinsombi and was full of praise for the midfielder. “We’re extremely pleased to have signed such a strong player from the second division. Despite his young age, David has proven himself worthy to wear the captain’s armband in Kiel. We’re been working on this deal for six months, and are pleased that it worked out. We’re certain that he will help us achieve our goals. We wish him a speedy recovery so that he can be back to playing as soon as possible.”

And, Kinsombi himself is excited about the move to Hamburg. “I had a great time in Kiel. The last two years here have been a lot of fun and have helped me develop into a better player. I’m working hard to get better in order to be there for my team at the end of the season. But, at the same time, it was time for me to move on. I’m excited to move to Hamburg and for this new experience at a big club like HSV with such an impressive fan base. I had many good conversations with the club and fully support the direction the club wants to go in.”

Growing up in Rüdesheim am Rhein, Kinsombi made his debut playing for Germania Wiesbaden, before moving to SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the summer of 2011. One year later he headed to Mainz 05’s youth team, where he played for three years. During this time, Kinsombi made three appearances for the German U18 team. After moving to Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2014, Kinsombi made his Bundesliga debut with the club in November that same year. While at Karlsruher SC (where he started in January 2016), Kinsombi was loaned out to FC Magdeburg for half a year, appearing in 12 matches for the club. Kinsombi signed a contract with Kiel following the 2016-17 season, in which he played 26 matches (one goal) for Karlsruher SC. In his 55 appearances for Kiel the midfielder racked up 10 goals and four assists. During Kiel’s two meetings with HSV this season (3-0, 3-1), he featured in four of the six goals scored by his side (three goals, one assist).
