HSV through to second round of DFB-Pokal after 2-1 win in Pirmasens
Despite finding themselves trailing for much of the second half, the Rothosen were able to progress past the first round after beating FK Pirmasens 2-1 in extra-time.
Hamburger SV have qualified for the second round of the DFB-Pokal after overcoming FK Pirmasens 2-1 in extra-time on Saturday afternoon (16th August). Substitute Guilherme Ramos equalised late on to send the match to extra time, before Ransford Königsdörffer headed in the winning goal in the 100th minute to spare the Rothosen their blushes against the underdogs from Pirmasens.
HSV struggled to find their footing against the Oberliga side, who were defending deep and making it difficult for their Bundesliga opposition to find ways into the final third. The hosts were able to go close twice as half time approached, forcing goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes into making a strong save first, before their second attempt went just wide of the target.

The two teams emerged from the dressing room still deadlocked, with Otto Stange sending a shot onto the bar from close range, in what was HSV's best chance to date. Shortly after, Pirmasens celebrated after taking the lead from a short corner. Kevin Buchler's cross was turned in by Yannick Grieß, although the defender looked to have been offside. Thomas Selensky then had an opportunity to double their lead shortly after, but was denied by a goal-line clearance from Miro Muheim.
After hitting the bar for the second time, the Rothosen looked to get back into the game, which they managed to do in stoppage time. Substitute Ramos, who was brought on as a centre-forward by head coach Merlin Polzin due to his heading ability, nodded home the equaliser from a corner, sending the game into extra time. Another header in the second half of extra time completed the HSV turnaround. Again from a set piece, again with a header, this time from Königsdörffer, putting HSV on the road to victory. The last few minutes proved to be anxious for the Rothosen, before the final whistle blew and the players were able to celebrating booking their place in the next round with the travelling fans.
