HSV thumped 5-0 at home by Jahn Regensburg

A first half to forget...

Head coach Christian Titz had already stressed in his press conference on Friday that he would be rotating his side and he did just that, making six changes from the away win at Dynamo Dresden. Lacroix, Steinmann, Mangala, Hwang, Holtby and Ito came into the side for Bates, Janjicic, Moritz, Vagnoman, Narey and Lasogga.

The changes made to the HSV side were noticeable at the beginning of the game, with a number of individual errors being made. Regensburg managed to punish one finally in the 11th minute, as Julian Pollersbeck lost the ball on the edge of his box to SSV striker Sargis Adamyan, who then stroked the ball into an empty net to give the guests the lead. Regensburg were clever and effective going forward, something evident in their second goal. Andreas Geipl played a clever ball through to Adamyan who buried his second chance. His right-footed shot was slightly deflected by Lacroix and thus left Pollersbeck with no chance. HSV came back into the game and created some real openings for themselves, albeit with no end reward. The away side were then able to pop up and score a third after 35 minutes, Adamyan again remaining ice-cold in front of goal. To make matters worse, HSV skipper Aaron Hunt then missed a penalty in the 40th minute, having won it himself. Overall the first half couldn’t have gone away worse for Die Rothosen and Regensburg’s lead was ultimately well deserved.
