Two giant clubs are set for an encounter this pre-season: Hamburger SV will welcome Everton FC to the Volksparkstadion as part of the Volksparkfestival on 1st August. The women’s and men’s teams from both clubs will each contest pre-season friendlies, making for a unique double-header between two historic footballing institutions. The action gets underway at 13:30 CEST with the meeting between HSV Women and Everton Women, before the men’s sides take to the pitch at 17:00 CEST.
HSV members will be able to make use of their priority ticket access from 30th June. General sale is expected to begin on 2nd July. Further information regarding the Volksparkfestival programme will be announced in due course.
Founded in 1878, Everton are one of the grand old clubs of English football. The men’s team have won nine league titles and lifted the FA Cup on five occasions. The Toffees also claimed European silverware in 1985, defeating SK Rapid 3-1 in the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup. The Viennese side, incidentally, will be HSV’s first opponents of this summer's pre-season campaign.
The Merseyside club have spent the last 72 years in the top flight and are one of only six clubs never to have been relegated from the Premier League since its inception in 1992/93. Managed by Scotsman David Moyes, Everton finished 13th in the Premier League last season. Their squad includes England international goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and German midfielder Merlin Röhl.
Everton Women were founding members of the Women’s Super League when it was launched in 2011/12 and have remained in the top division continuously since 2017. They finished eighth in the 12-team league last season.
The two clubs will now meet for the first time in their long and distinguished histories. The Volksparkfestival awaits, with this special occasion celebrating the rich traditions of both HSV and Everton.
