In front of more than 2,000 spectators at the Ahe-Stadion in Rotenburg, HSV Women played their final pre-season friendly against SV Werder Bremen on Sunday afternoon. The match kicked off at 3:15 p.m. and immediately began at a high intensity. Bremen capitalised on an early transition and moved the ball forward quickly. After a scramble in the HSV defence, Mirzaliyeva and Böhler failed to cut out the pass to the unmarked Jaron, who found the net to put Bremen 1–0 ahead (9').
HSV became more active after the early setback and were rewarded in the 19th minute. A corner from Linberg found Mirzaliyeva, who won the aerial duel and headed home the equaliser to make it 1–1.
An evenly matched and intense contest developed from there, characterised by numerous challenges and duels. Shortly before the break, HSV had another opportunity through a Linberg free kick but were unable to make it count. Bremen then broke forward quickly once again, but goalkeeper Szemik dealt confidently with the opposing threats.

HSV returned for the second half without making any changes. Bremen initially came out stronger and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area in the 55th minute following a foul by Dönges. The resulting delivery found Ulbrich, who headed home to restore Werder’s lead at 2–1.
Bremen increasingly took control of the game after that and became the more threatening side. In the 78th minute, Werder extended their lead to 3–1 from the penalty spot. Jaron confidently converted the spot kick, while Baum was also shown a yellow card for the foul. Shortly before the end of regulation time, Bremen added a fourth. After a low ball across goal from the left, the Werder goalscorer slotted her finish into the far corner.
Despite the sizeable deficit, there was still a special moment from an HSV perspective in the final third of the match: Laura Sieger made her comeback in the Hamburg goal after more than eleven months on the sidelines due to injury.
HSV had another opportunity to pull a goal back in extra time. In the 96th minute, first Morich and then Brunnthaler were unable to get a shot away. Shortly before the final whistle, Werder broke through once more and scored to complete the 5–1 final scoreline.
Bremen therefore came out on top in HSV’s final friendly of pre-season. For HSV Women, the preparation period concludes with an intense encounter played in front of a strong crowd – and Laura Sieger’s comeback providing a welcome highlight.
Cardoso’s side begin their Bundesliga campaign next weekend, hosting SC Freiburg at the Volkspark on Sunday, August 23.
