“In the end all that matters is that we’re through”
Hamburger SV came through a crazy game 5-3 on Saturday evening against TuS Erndtebrück to reach the second round of the DFB-Pokal. Here’s what the players and staff made of the result.
Christian Titz’s side started the game stronger and were two up inside ten minutes thanks to a penalty from Lewis Holtby and a strike from Fiete Arp. But the Oberliga side fought back, halving the deficit just before half time and then leveling the game just after the restart through goals from Yamazaki and Hunold. The youngest team in Germany’s top two divisions did not let themselves get flustered and responded brilliantly thanks to a quick double from Pierre-Michel Lasogga. Once again the hosts dug deep, and set up an exciting finish thanks to Hilenbach’s goal, but Orel Mangala made the game safe in the final minute to a 5-3 win for Die Rothosen.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga: We led by two after 10 minutes, what more could you want, it’s exactly what you need against a fifth division side. Then all of a sudden after the break it’s 2-2. You could see that every mistake will get punished and that’s something to learn from. As I watched them draw level from the bench I wanted to get on and help turn the game back in our favour inside 90 minutes. I gave everything I could. They were my first goals since I returned from England. Two goals for me as a striker are important. I would to back that up now. In the end all that matters is that we’re through.
