International break: Janjicic scores, draws for HSV trio

Six Hamburg players were involved in international fixtures on Friday night, with the Rothosen securing a mixed bag of results.

There are a total of nine HSV players on international duty during this break, although just six of them had a chance to feature yesterday. The best result came for Vasilije Janjicic, with the 19-year-old not only celebrating a 3-1 win over Malta for Switzerland’s U20s, but the midfielder also scored the goal that put the Swiss 2-0 in front.

Meanwhile, Gotoku Sakai’s Japan drew 1-1 with Mali. The HSV captain came on for the second half in Liege. Filip Kostic did get 90 minutes under his belt, albeit in a 2-1 defeat to Morocco for his Serbia side. Kyriakos Papadopoulos didn’t get on the pitch, however, as Greece lost 1-0 to Switzerland.

There was a better result for Josha Vagnoman, as the 17-year-old helped Germany’s U18s to a 2-2 draw with France in Eilenburg. Tatsuya Ito also took part in a high-scoring draw, with Japan’s U21s and Venezuela’s U20s playing out a thrilling 3-3 at a Four Nations tournament in Peru.
