Jonas David signs professional contract

The 18-year-old academy product has signed a professional contract until the summer of 2021.

HSV have continued to back youth by signing up Jonas David to a long-term contract. The 18-year-old midfielder, who can also play at centre back, has today signed a professional contract until 2021. He previously had a youth contract which was due to expire on 30th June 2019.

As a child, David took part in the HSV summer camps and then made his move from Eintracht Norderstedt to Die Rothosen in July 2014. After representing the youth teams at every level, the youngster started training with the first team this summer and has impressed the coaching staff. The 6’2” German, who has Nigerian roots, has been a regular part of Christian Titz’s squad this campaign and even made his debut on the opening day against Holstein Kiel. After Fiete Arp and Josha Vagnoman, Jonas David became the third player born in the year 2000 to make an appearance for the club. David has played six games this season with four of those appearances coming for the U21s and one for the U19 squad.

The teenager was delighted to sign the contract, further extending his connection with the club. He said: “I am obviously happy to have signed my first professional contract. For every young player, the aim is to be offered their first contract. I know that this is just the beginning. It is now up to me to put in good performances in training to get some more playing time. I am from Hamburg, have always been a HSV fan and can say that this club is my home. Therefore, this is an extremely special day for me.”

HSV sporting director Ralf Becker was also really pleased about the contract extension. “Jonas has stood out to us in the past years, especially this year in pre-season. He is a player with a great mentality and impressed us with his ambition. He is an exciting player with huge potential. We are therefore delighted to tie him down to a long-term contract,” said Becker.
