Königsdörffer: “I had no problems returning”
In an interview after training around midday on Friday (8th August), Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer spoke about his recent failed transfer to OGC Nice, his return to HSV, and the team’s preparations for the upcoming season.
Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer shows full concentration in training, as he picks up the ball, rides two challenges, and drills it low into the far corner. The striker has managed to keep this level of focus throughout the last few days, even while a potential move to French club OGC Nice hung in the air; a transfer that could not be completed. “It was a big chance for me to play abroad, however it was not meant to be. I just have to accept this and move on”, commented the 23-year-old on Friday during a training pitch interview. The topic is considered done by the right-footer. “Everyone is pleased that I am back and everything is the same as it was before. I haven’t thought too much about how I’ll fit in here, as I feel good about being at HSV and in Hamburg, plus I know everyone here”, said Königsdörffer on re-joining the Rothosen. The forward spoke in more detail during a press conference about ...
... his well-being: I am healthy, fully fit, and ready to give my all and I am really happy to be here in Mallorca at this training camp. I had no concerns with returning to HSV; this was never an issue for me as I maintained a good relationship with everyone at the club the whole time.
... the possibility of a transfer: I’ve always said that it is my dream to play in the Premier League one day. This was a big chance for me to play abroad, however it was not meant to be. I just have to accept this and move on

... the failed transfer: I was more surprised than anything, as I’ve missed almost no games for HSV in the last three years. I spoke with the staff at Nice; I gave my opinion and they gave me theirs and in the end no common ground could be reached. The tests I did claimed that there were some issues and I debated them with the staff at the club. In the end I just had to accept their opinions.
.. his return to HSV: I was welcomed back by my teammates and had to run through the famous tunnel, seeing as I’m technically a newcomer. (grins) Everyone is pleased that I’m back and everything is the same as it was before. I haven’t thought too much about how I’ll fit in here, as I feel good about being at HSV and in Hamburg, plus I know everyone here.

... the reactions of his HSV teammates: I didn’t expect much from the boys. (laughs) I went to the stadium as normal, walked into the changing-room and sat down in my seat. Some of the boys gave me a hug, some said they were sorry that it didn’t happen, most just said it was good to see me back. Of course there was the odd comment, for example that the weather we have in Mallorca right now I could have had all the time in Nice. (laughs) I had no concerns coming back. I was always in conversation with Stefan Kuntz, Claus Costa, and Merlin Polzin. We still spoke openly even when the offer came in.
... preparing for the season ahead: It’s an intense pre-season with friendlies against good opponents which has led to some tired legs at the end of it all. Obviously we want to win this game against RCD Mallorca and perform as well as we can, however, we will treat this game like the other games we’ve played so far and use it to test out new ideas. It’s crucial that we are ready for our DFB-Pokal match next week.
