Lasogga brace and Santos goal send HSV to round of 16 with 3-0 win
A double from Pierre-Michel Lasogga and one from Douglas Santos were enough for HSV to progress to the round of 16 of the DFB Pokal.
HSV are in the last 16 of the DFB Pokal after beating SV Wehen Wiesbaden 3-0 on Tuesday evening. The man of the moment in the sold-out BRITA-Arena was Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who scored HSV’s first two goals. His first goal was a powerful strike from a tight angle and then he scored again in the second half after good link-up play between Lewis Holtby and Fiete Arp. Douglas Santos added a third deep into injury time. The home side also had a few chances as they hit the woodwork twice, while Pollersbeck was also called upon, however the win was deserved for Die Rothosen.
Lasogga with the brace…
HSV coach Hannes Wolf only made one change from the win against Magdeburg as the injured Hwang made way for Arp, who played on the left flank. The line up was very attack orientated and this showed on the pitch as the away side were the dominant team during the beginning of the match. The dominance showed in the 20th minute when Lasogga hammered home a powerful strike which went underneath goalkeeper Kolke. The goalkeeper could have done more but the HSV fans did not care as the goal was more than deserved. HSV dominated the opening 30 minutes, but the third-tier side looked dangerous from set-pieces. Midfielder Titsch-Rivero , a former Eintracht Frankfurt player, came close for the hosts. Pollersbeck was called into action to deny a header from Rivero, nevertheless HSV went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

…and Santos seals the win
HSV took control of the game at the beginning of the second half. The visitors knocked the ball about well and started to find space in midfield. Then came the second goal. Holtby found Arp at the back post with a great lofted ball, before the teenager headed it back across goal to Lasogga who fired into the roof of the net. From here on in, HSV looked like they were not going to be caught and had one foot in the round of 16. Wehen Wiesbaden did have their chances to pull one back, as Kyereh hit the bar with a header, which would have set up an interesting finale. Wolf’s team maintained their advantage until the end but the home side continued to look threatening from set pieces. There were eight minutes of added time, due to the interruption of flares in the away section, and in this time the home side hit the woodwork again, however the result was in no doubt. The visitors put the nail in the coffin as Santos scored a third and sent HSV on their way to the round of 16.
