Luca Waldschmidt joins SC Freiburg

Luca Waldschmidt is leaving HSV after two years at the club. The youngster signed the contract and to complete the transfer earlier today.
Waldschmidt joined the club, where he played as a youth, from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2016. He played a total of 38 competitive matches during the last two seasons, notching three goals and two assists. He will always be remembered for his goal against VfL Wolfsburg on matchday 34 of the 2016/17 season, which secured a 2-1 victory at the Volksparkstadion to secure Bundesliga safety for another season. Now Waldschmidt believes it’s time for a new challenge. “We understand and respect Luca’s wish to continue playing in the Bundesliga. He can do that at SC Freiburg. We wish Luca all the best for the future at his new club and thank him for his efforts at HSV," said HSV squad planner Johannes Spors on the transfer.
