
Better news regarding Christian Mathenia. The keeper sustained heavy bruising to his right knee in a collision with a team mate during the matchday 30 loss at home to Darmstadt last weekend. The stopper underwent a scan in Hamburg to reveal the extent of the injury on Monday. He could be available for HSV’s crucial away game in Augsburg on Saturday afternoon: “As bad as it is having to miss training for a couple of days, I am relieved that the injury is not serious. I will do everything possible to get fit again as soon as possible”, Mathenia told

. Should he miss out, experienced replacement Tom Mickel will be called up because first choice stopper Rene Adler is still struggling to shake off the after effects of a broken rib. Mickel played his only Bundesliga game in Augsburg which the Rothosen won 3-1: “Tom does a sterling job with the under-21s. I have no problem in selecting him for the trip to Augsburg”, said HSV head coach Markus Gisdol on the keeper who has made the first team squad a dozen times so far this season.
