Mathenia moves to 1. FC Nürnberg

Christian Mathenia has left HSV to join 1. FC Nürnberg. Mathenia arrived in Hamburg from Darmstadt in the summer of 2016, going on to make 14 Bundesliga appearances for the Rothosen in his first season. He was a big part of the team’s survival at the end of the 2016/17 season, although he lost his first team place to Julian Pollersbeck towards the end of the season just gone. After two years at the club and a total of 38 appearances, both sides have gone their separate ways. “We extend our gratitude to Chris for his commitment to the club - he was always went about things in an exemplary manner,” says HSV director of scouting, Johannes Spors. “We wish him all the best for the future.”
