Miro Muheim comes on in Switzerland’s first World Cup game
Switzerland began their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Qatar, with the HSV left-back making his tournament debut.
Switzerland, with Miro Muheim in their ranks, began their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Qatar on Saturday (13th June). The HSV left-back was brought on in the 89th minute, making his World Cup debut in his 11th international appearance. Stoppage time brought a frustrating twist for Muheim, as he inadvertently diverted a cross into his own net while challenging for a header. Breel Embolo had earlier put Switzerland ahead from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.
After their opening match, the Swiss face Bosnia and Herzegovina (18th June) and hosts Canada (21st June) in Group B. “Our aim is to reach the quarter-finals. We’ve never managed that before,” Muheim said ahead of the tournament.
The two other Rothosen called up, Sander Tangvik (Norway) and Luka Vuskovic (Croatia), begin their World Cup campaigns with their national teams next Wednesday (17th June).
