More Space for Fans: Expansion of Volksparkstadion Gets Underway
Hamburger SV has received approval to increase the stadium capacity to more than 60,000 seats. In close coordination with the Ticketing and Fan Culture departments, the expansion will be carried out gradually while matches continue to take place, allowing the capacity to be increased step by step.

With the approval now granted, preparations for the implementation of the construction project can move into the concrete planning phase. HSV can now initiate the next steps towards the start of construction. The current plan is to begin the first conversion works in October. The work will be carried out during the periods between home matches of the two Bundesliga teams in order to ensure that match operations continue smoothly.
The first stage of the gradual redevelopment will focus on the A-tier, where additional capacity will be created by installing extra seats along the stairways and access routes. In the subsequent construction phases, the blocks in the B-tier and C-tier will also be expanded with additional seats along the stairways. The final stage will involve extending the A-tier towards the pitch. In addition, new sanitary facilities will be built as part of the redevelopment in order to further develop the infrastructure of Volksparkstadion in line with the increased capacity.

The capacity expansion is being financed by the HSV Supporters Trust. The Trust pools the funds generated through the participation of HSV fans and uses them primarily to acquire additional shares in HSV Fußball AG & Co. KGaA. The financial resources provided in this way enable HSV Fußball AG & Co. KGaA to finance the expansion of the stadium capacity. Through the Supporters Trust, HSV fans are therefore not only helping to give more people access to the HSV experience, but are also strengthening HSV's financial capabilities and creating additional financial scope for its future development. When will the redevelopment work begin?
HSV received approval to expand the stadium capacity at the beginning of September. Concrete preparations for the implementation phase are now getting underway. I have a season-ticket seat next to a stairway and would like to continue sitting on the edge of the block. Will this still be possible?
As part of the expansion, the blocks along the stairways in all tiers will gradually be extended by adding additional seats. As a result, existing seats on the edge may no longer be located at the edge of the respective block in the future. If an existing seat is affected by one of these measures, the fans concerned will be informed about any potential changes at an early stage.
When will the first new seats go on sale?
The aim is to make the first newly created seats available to HSV fans as soon as possible. When individual seats can be completed and released for sale will depend on the progress of the construction work and the matchday schedule. HSV will provide timely information about specific sales dates.
How will the expansion be financed?
The capacity expansion is being financed by the HSV Supporters Trust.
