Narey secures 1-0 home win for HSV
Hamburger SV beat Paderborn 1-0 at the Volksparkstadion in the final home match of 2018. Khaled Narey scored the game’s only goal.
HSV sealed a narrow, but deserved 1-0 home victory over SC Paderborn 07 on Friday evening. The Rothosen flew out of the blocks, piling on the pressure pressure and creating several big chances in the opening minutes, in particular through Khaled Narey who struck the post after just four minutes. Another opportunity followed, before the breakthrough finally came in the 11th minute. The low strike into the far corner was Narey’s fifth of the season and first in front of a home crowd. While the first half belonged the HSV, it was the visitors who came out quicker after break, creating several chances of their own. But quality was lacking at both ends and HSV held on to all three points.
NAREY’S ELECTRIC START...
Hannes Wolf sent out the same XI from last weekend’s victory with one clear aim: treat the fans to a winning performance in the final home game of 2018. And it was clear from the first whistle that they were determined to deliver.
HSV played a high pressing, attacking game from the get-go, forcing Paderborn deep in their own half and creating chances down the wings, in particular through the lively Khaled Narey. Twice in the opening ten minutes our no.7 came close to opening the scoring, once shooting wide and then again off the upright, before his energetic start was eventually rewarded with the game’s opening goal in the 11th minute.
Paderborn were overwhelmed by the early HSV pressure, but slowly found themselves in the game and created a chance of their own when Philipp Klement struck the crossbar from a direct free kick (16’). But the home defence stood strong and held off any real threat from the visitors to take a narrow 1-0 lead into the break.

...SEALS NARROW HOME VICTORY
The second half begin with a similar high-tempo to the first, however it was Paderborn who sought to take the early initiative when Babacar Gueye’s headed effort rattling off the crossbar – a much-needed wake-up call for the hosts. A flurry of chances followed for the hosts, but Narey, Jatta and Hwang were all unable to extend the lead.
Having survived the early scare, HSV regained control of the affair and began causing the newly-promoted side more problems with their high pressing game. Despite space opening up, the deserved second goal continued to evade the league leaders, leading to a nervy final 15 minutes. Paderborn’s lack of quality in the final third proved their own undoing and HSV would hold on to all three points.
