Nicolai Remberg Suffers ACL Tear
The HSV captain sustained a serious knee injury during the match at Sinsheim and will be sidelined for an extended period.
Frustrating news for Hamburger SV and their captain, Nicolai Remberg. The defensive midfielder suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Saturday’s (10 October) Bundesliga match away to TSG Hoffenheim (3–2). An MRI scan carried out later that evening at the "Athleticum am Volkspark" confirmed an initial suspicion. Remberg will have to undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action for several months.

The 26-year-old joined HSV from Holstein Kiel ahead of the 2025/26 season and immediately established himself as a regular starter and key performer in the holding midfield role. Ahead of the current season, head coach Merlin Polzin appointed Remberg as the club’s new skipper, making him the 35th player in HSV history to captain the team in the Bundesliga.
“It’s a bitter moment for him personally and for us as a team, because he is exactly the kind of player who embodies what the new HSV is supposed to stand for,” Polzin explained yesterday.
Remberg, who has made 40 competitive appearances wearing the HSV diamond on his chest, now faces a demanding and physically challenging rehabilitation process. HSV and the club’s medical team will provide him with the best possible support throughout his recovery.
Get well soon, “Rambo” – if anyone can come back even stronger, it’s you!
