“Our character got us the win”
Hamburger SV secured a 3-2 win on Matchday 5 against 1. FC Heidenheim. Die Rothosen showed a strong mentality to turn the game around. The players were understandably delighted after the full-time whistle. HSV.de has the opinions on the game.
When Heidenheim’s Robert Andrich was through on goal in the 69th minute to make it 2-0, all HSV fans in the Volksparkstadion held their breath. Andrich spurned this opportunity and left the door open for a HSV comeback. HSV forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga then scored three unanswered goals inside eight minutes and 26 seconds which put the home side on the path to victory. The young HSV team were not put off their stride by the huge opening in the 69th minute but the away side managed to score again in the 89th minute. The HSV players showed their excitement for the victory after the game. HSV.de presents the opinions on the game.
Aaron Hunt: We expected this kind of opponent. They defended with nail and tooth. They were a tough nut to crack and scored a goal from a set piece. We showed amazing character and we were rewarded for our persistence. ‘Lasso’ is the kind of player that is almost impossible to mark in the box. He is always in dangerous positions and he is always on the move. We played our cards well to bring on a player of his quality when the game is looking for a spark. Hwang could obviously not learn the way we want to play in just three days but he played well and got himself in dangerous areas on two or three occasions.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga: It is always nice to score three goals in such a short period of time. The ball seems to always fall to me at the moment. I am pleased that I can help the team so much by scoring so often. I always try to create space and my headers are all coming off at the moment. You are obviously not happy when you have to sit on the bench. That is obvious and is the case for every player, which also makes it difficult for the manager. You have to wait for your chance and I believe I took it.
Fiete Arp: The win was really good for us. We put our marker down in this league and it is a good message to send off before next week. However it was not all good overall. We should not be conceding two goals are home and rely on us to score three to win the game. I created the second goal with my cross and I knew that Pierre was going to be there in the middle. In these situations you don’t have the chance to look up.
Hee-chan Hwang: I am delighted with the win. It is a great feeling to celebrate the win with the fans. It took me a while to grow into the game. ‘Lasso’ played great and score some good goals. It is good fun to be on the same team as players like that.
Christian Titz: We tried to break Heidenheim down but they defended well and made life difficult for us. The second half was very turbulent. The team showed that they can come back in games. The substitutes made their mark on the game. Huge praise goes to Pierre. It shows his quality as a player when he can come on and make such an impact. He is allowed to be annoyed that he started as a substitute but it is better when he shows this frustration through his performances. We fought for this victory.
Frank Schmidt: I was very pleased with the game plan today. We defended with discipline and gave them no space. We did not have many attacking opportunities in the first half but we were more courageous in the second half. We scored the first goal and had the chance to make it two. It was a completely different game once Lasogga had made it 1-1. We then saw HSV grow in confidence and the win was deserved.
