Over 1.000 fans attend season-opening

On Sunday morning HSV officially opened the 2017/18 season in front of over 1,000 HSV at the Volksparkstadion. The squad and staff went to nearby Rotenburg to set up the first training camp of the summer the same afternoon.

At around 10.00 AM the players emerged to applause from their fans for an open training session at a training pitch outside the Volksparkstadion. The 20-man squad wore the impressive new kit for the coming season as they were put through their paces by head coach Markus Gisdol and his staff.

21-man squad to Rotenburg

After watching the strenuous session the fans including several kids tucked into food and refreshments. Club mascot Dino was as always a big hit with the little ones. After the hour long session players took time out to pose for photos and sign autographs: “A great atmosphere. The fans were in good spirits and fully identify with their club. We will need their support during the coming season”, observed new signing Andre Hahn.

The 26 year old striker then joined the rest of the squad for the short trip to Rotenburg where the Rothosen will reside until July 13. Apart from new signings Hahn and Bjarne Thoelkem, Greek defensive kingpin Kyriakos Papadopoulos and youngsters Jonas Behounek, Fiete Arp and Tobias Knost also made the trip.
