Ransford Königsdörffer to leave HSV
The 24-year-old has chosen to not extend his contract at HSV, and will instead complete a move to 1. FSV Mainz 05.
Ransford Königsdörffer is set to leave Hamburger SV upon expiry of his contract, which remains valid until 30th June 2026. The centre-forward will then complete a move to fellow Bundesliga outfit 1. FSV Mainz 05.
“Since joining us from Dresden, Ransi has continued to improve over each of his four years with us and, together with the team, helped bring us back to the Bundesliga. His goals and assists played a key part in our promotion and in us securing safety this season,” said HSV sporting director Claus Costa. “We would have liked to have extended his contract with us, but he made the decision to pursue a new challenge elsewhere, which we have to accept. We wish Ransi all the best for the future and are all looking forward to seeing him again next season.”

138 competitive games for HSV
Königsdörffer joined the Rothosen from SG Dynamo Dresden in summer 2022, going on to feature in 138 competitive games for the club (33 goals, 9 assists). Two of these goals came in HSV’s 6-1 win over SSV Ulm, which sealed their promotion back to the top flight. During his time in Hamburg, Königsdörffer became a Ghana international and has since earned seven caps for the 'Black Stars,' including one appearance at the AFCON in early 2024.
“I’m grateful for the time I’ve enjoyed in Hamburg. Nevertheless, I’ve decided that it’s time for something new. My goal at Hannover, sealing promotion against Ulm and, most recently, securing safety in my first season in the Bundesliga are all moments that I will never forget and which I’m extremely thankful for,” Königsdörffer said. “I would like to say thank you to the club’s management team and the coaching staff, especially Merlin, Loic and Richi. They have continuously supported me over the last four years, have helped me improve and, most importantly, always stuck by me even in difficult moments. Additionally, I would also like to thank all of my teammates, the staff and the other employees at the club. They all helped make my time at HSV something special. I wish the club all the best for the future.”
