Matchdays 1-4 confirmed: HSV kick off with prime-time clash at BVB
HSV will begin the 2026/27 Bundesliga season with a Saturday evening trip to runners-up Borussia Dortmund (18:30 CEST). The Rothosen's first home fixture follows a week later as they host Mainz 05 in Hamburg on Sunday afternoon (15:30 CEST).
The Bundesliga confirmed the kick-off times for Matchdays 1 to 4 of the 2026/27 season on Wednesday morning (15th July). HSV's next campaign in the top flight will begin with the first prime-time Saturday night game of the new season, as Merlin Polzin's side travel to eight-time German champions Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 29th August (18:30 CEST). The Rothosen also played that timeslot away at Signal Iduna Park last season, racing into a 2-0 lead after a superb first-half display and remaining in front until well into the second half, before eventually slipping to a narrow 3-2 defeat against the eventual runners-up.
Two Sundays, One Saturday
HSV's first home match of the new season comes on matchday 2, when Mainz 05 visit the Volksparkstadion. Kick-off is at 15:30 CEST on Sunday, 6th September. A week later, the Rothosen are once again in action on Sunday afternoon, travelling to RB Leipzig for a 15:30 CEST kick-off on 13th September. Their first fixture in the traditional Saturday 15:30 CEST slot comes on Matchday 4, when HSV host 1. FC Köln at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday, 19TH September.
