Seven players called up for international duty

While the majority of the HSV squad will be using the international break to prepare intensively for our next Bundesliga match, seven players are on their travels to represent their national sides.

In the coming days, head coach Christian Titz will have to do without Bobby Wood, Kyriakos Papdopoulos, Filip Kostice, Mergim Mavraj, Rick van Drongelen, Tatsuya Ito and Vasilije Janjicic. Wood is joining up with the US Men’s National Team for their friendly against Paraguay (March 28th). Papadopoulos will play for Greece versus Switzerland (March 23rd) and Egypt (March 27th). Kostic and Serbia take on Morocco on March 23rd and Nigeria on March 27th, while Mavraj and Albania come up against Norway on March 26th. Two HSV players are representing their countries at U21 level. Dutchman Rick van Drongelen and his countrymen have a friendly on March 22nd versus Belgium and, five days later, have a European Championship qualifier in Andorra (March 27th).

Ito could well make his debut for Japan’s U21s in their U21 tournament in Paraguay. There, Japan face Chile on March 21st, Venezuela on March 23rd and the hosts on March 25th. Janjicic is the squad for the Switzerland U20s’ fixtures with Malta (March 23rd) and Italy (March 27th).
