Success for two Rothosen on international duty
In the first phase of the current international break, Miro Muheim and Luka Vuskovic enjoyed important wins in their bids to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, while two other HSV players endured more difficult outings. Here’s the international round-up from an HSV perspective.
The first set of fixtures involving HSV players during this international period has come to an end, and the emotions were mixed. While Yussuf Poulsen had to withdraw from the Denmark squad due to injury and will return to Hamburg disappointed, and Giorgi Gocholeishvili suffered a heavy defeat, two other Rothosen were able to celebrate both minutes on the pitch and positive results.

Denmark drew 2-2 with Belarus without Poulsen, while Gocholeishvili’s Georgia were beaten 4-0 by reigning European champions Spain, although the right-back did play the full 90 minutes. Miro Muheim and Luka Vuskovic, on the other hand, both tasted victory with their national teams. Muheim came on in the 70th minute for Switzerland in their 4-1 win over Sweden, replacing veteran left-back Ricardo Rodriguez of Real Betis to earn more valuable minutes for his country.
Vuskovic started for Croatia, played the full match and celebrated a 3-1 victory over the Faroe Islands in what was just his second senior international appearance. Mixed emotions, then, for the Rothosen on international duty, who will gradually return to Hamburg over the coming week. Before that, however, comes the second phase of international fixtures at the start of the new week – here’s the full overview:
