TATSUYA ITO SIGNS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT UNTIL 2021

THE 20-YEAR-OLD’S PREVIOUS CONTRACT HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO A PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT AND EXTENDED UNTIL THE SUMMER OF 2021.

After Patric Pfeiffer and Tobias Knost in recent weeks, Hamburger SV have tied down another youngster from their academy to a long-term contract in Tatsuya Ito. The Japanese winger’s contract which was due to run until 30th June 2018 has been converted into a professional contract with immediate effect and three years have been added to the contract, meaning it will run until the summer of 2021. Tatsuya has developed brilliantly this season and he has shown his quality really impressively in the Bundesliga. With his refreshing and carefree style of play, he brings a bit of unpredictability into our play. We are really happy that, in Tatsuya, we have brought another really talented youngster through from our academy to the Bundesliga and that he can now take his next step in his career at HSV,” sporting director Jens Todt explained.

From Japan and the U21s to the Bundesliga

Ito moved from Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol to HSV’s youth academy. In the academy, his progress was slowed by a knee injury but he went on to make his first appearances for the U21s in the Regionalliga Nord last season. Meanwhile this season, the winger was promoted to the first team and celebrated his Bundesliga debut on 24th September against Leverkusen. Since then, the bubbly winger has made eight top-flight appearances and started five times for the Rothosen.
