Tim Leibold signs for HSV

The 25-year-old left-back arrives from 1. FC Nürnberg, penning a four-year deal with Die Rothosen.

HSV have completed their eighth signing ahead of the upcoming season, with the arrival of Tim Leibold from 1. FC Nürnberg. The defender passed his medical on Friday (28th June) and put pen to paper on a four-year deal that runs until 30th June 2023. “Tim is a very ambitious player who’s been sought after a lot in the last few months. He knows the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, and he’s a good age. He still wants to get higher and develop himself further, and he can definitely help us with our own ambitious goals,” said Jonas Boldt.

“I’m full of energy and drive”

Tim Leibold got three assists in 32 Bundesliga games last season but missed his club’s DFB-Pokal game against HSV. Die Rothosen’s new signing is looking forward to his new challenge: “I’m full of energy and drive for taking this new step and searching out a new challenge. I experienced a lot in Nürnberg and I had four really wonderful years there. Nonetheless, I’m very happy to sign for HSV, and in particular happy to play in this great stadium.”

Following his youth career at SV Friolzheim, VfB Stuttgart and TSF Ditzingen, Leibold signed for SGV Freiburg in 2012 at the age of 18. The defender got some experience in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg before returning the VfB Stuttgart the following season, getting his debut for the second team in the third division. Leibold, who has three caps for Germany U20s, signed for 1. FC Nürnberg ahead of the 2015/16 season. He played 70 2. Bundesliga games for the club (eight goals, eight assists), and 32 in the Bundesliga.
