Training resumes at Volkspark on Sunday

HSV will hold a public training session for their fans before heading off to the first training camp of the pre-season on Sunday at nearby Rotenburg.

The long wait finally ends on Thursday (July 6) as the players report back to undergo lactate and performance tests ahead of the impending 2017/18 season. Further examinations will be undergone players at a university hospital in Hamburg the following day. The posse will set up camp in Rotenburg the same day and will reside there from July 9 – 13. 

New and familiar faces 

The public training session begins on one of the training pitches behind the Volksparkstadion at 10.00 AM, and fans can look forward to seeing familiar but also new faces. Key defender Kyriakos Papadopolous makes a first appearance since making his deal with HSV permanent, while striker Sven Schipplock returns to Hamburg following a loan spell at Darmstadt 98. New signings Hahn and Bjarne Thoelke will wear the famous HSV shirt for the first time while for young talents Jonas Behounek and Fiete Arp it will be their fourth and second training camp with the “big boys.”

Newly-signed keeper Julian Pollersbeck and recently- crowned fellow Euro under-21 European champion Gideon Jung will rejoin the squad on July 15 after their recent triumph. Internationals Bobby Wood, Albin Ekdal, Mergim Mavraj, Gotoku Sakai, Filip Kostic and Mats Köhlert (currently on duty with the under-19s) are also due back on July 15th, so will play no part in the Rotenburg camp. The same goes for midfielder Nabil Bahoui, who is currently discussing his future with other clubs, For everyone else though the ball officially begins to roll on Sunday morning!
