“We have to come together as a true team”

In an interview with HSV.de, new Rothosen signing Lukas Hinterseer speaks about his first few days at Hamburger SV, the special situations of pressure playing for the club and his personal ambitions.

After scoring 18 goals for VfL Bochum in the 2018/19 Bundesliga 2 season, Lukas Hinterseer chose to join Hamburger SV this summer on a free transfer. The 28 year-old didn’t just impress as goalscorer during the most recent campaign, but also as a provider as he chipped in with nine assists. The Austrian, who has spent the last two seasons in Bochum, was also the third highest scorer in the second tier last season. However, despite these impressive statistics, the Kitzbühel born striker doesn’t show any signs of self-satisfaction during today’s interview. Instead, the 28 year-old showed a drive for action and clarified his personal ambitions as a Rothosen player. In keeping with the high temperatures at the Volkspark today, the 1.92m tall striker had a new haircut for today’s training sessions. The short trim gives a combative impression which the new signing emphasized in further detail.

Lukas Hinterseer on…

….his first impressions of HSV: It is great to be there. Of course you can still notice the disappointment in some of my new teammates from last season. However, the head coach rightly said that we should move on from the past and take that out of our minds. Overall, there is a good atmosphere in the dressing room and on the training pitch. We now want to prepare for the new season well and start the season in strong fashion.

…the pressured situation at the club: Pressure is a part of society. HSV are a totally different club compared with my previous clubs. Everyone must know that there is a bit more pressure to perform here compared with other clubs. I don’t want to regard that statement too highly but instead I want to bring my best performances and win matches. This is something I want to record here at HSV. If I’m able to help the team succeed with a few goals, I’d be delighted. Everyone who knows me will know I give everything I have right up until the last second.

…his objectives on the pitch: Lots of changes have been made at the club. There is now a new coaching team at the club as well as lots of new players. Initally, we have to find a connection between ourselves and come together as a true team. In the last couple of years, you have seen how difficult the Bundesliga 2 is as a league. You have to give your best performance in every match to emerge as victors. With VfL Bochum, I motivated myself to up my game as I knew that you could definitely defeat teams such as HSV if you could find that extra two percent needed to see you over the line. Of course there are favourites going into a new season but you also get teams that come from nowhere and secure promotion, such as SC Paderborn last season. We have to be ready for anything.

…Dieter Hecking and his coaching team: You can see immediately that the head coach is very intelligent and gives valuable instructions and tips. You enjoy listening to him and it has been a lot of fun to work with him so far. Of course we will find out more about his game philosophy and formations over the next few days and weeks. It will then be our job to implement the coaching team’s ideas into practice.

…his first few days in Hamburg: Unfortunately I am still currently staying in a hotel. I’m currently on the search for a flat and will hopefully find something soon. Then my wife will come and move to Hamburg and will then be able to call this place. We will definitely need a garden in whatever home we find as we have two dogs!
