“We scored at the right time”
HSV fully deserved their 3-0 victory over SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the second round of the DFB-Pokal and therefore are in the pot for the round of 16 draw which takes place on Sunday.
There was euphoria as Douglas scored in the last minute as Hamburg confirmed their place in the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal. Before Douglas had scored, a very efficient Hamburg were 2-0 up in under an hour thanks to a brace from Pierre-Michel Lasogga. Nevertheless, the third division team did put up a fight and impressed as they had phases of the game where they dominated and they also hit the woodwork twice. In the end though HSV won convincingly and march on to the next round. The players gave their views on the game:
Pierre-Michel Lasogga: It was a typical cup tie; a fight! In the end, we deserved to go through to the next round but I have to admit that Wiesbaden played very well. They were always dangerous on the wing and threatened our goal. We scored at the right time, we threw water on the fire. Personally, it was a good game too. But now our focus turns towards the game against Köln.
Lewis Holtby: Pierre is here to score goals. I am so happy for him. Every team needs a striker who can score and we have exactly that. There are still things to work on because there were periods where we were sloppy. Of course the cup is always special and we have to give extra effort and not just give up. Wiesbaden had one or two chances to score and that’s why we have to be even more alert and stable in defence.
Ralf Becker: We played very well in the first half; lots of possession, lots of control and so we fully deserved our lead. Then there was a phase where we were sloppy on the ball. They could have equalised before half-time. However, in the second half we doubled our lead and that was important. Then the interruption came and the game could have been abandoned. I do not know whether the fans know what they are doing to HSV, regardless of the fact that the game could be cancelled, it also costs a lot of money and is very dangerous. We have to get that under control. It does not give a good image of us.
Hannes Wolf: We knew how difficult it would be here and therefore we are happy that we have won the game. In a few moments, we have a little bit of luck and we were effective in front of goal. After Wiesbaden changed tactics and did not sit so deep, it was harder for us. In the end, the only thing that counts in the cup is the victory and so we are happy to go through to the next round today.
