Wintzheimer scores as trio make their mark for German under-21s
All three HSV players in the German under-21 squad took to the field againt Slovenia, Manuel Wintzheimer marking his debut with a goal.
The German under-21 side played out a 1-1 friendly draw with Slovenia on Thursday evening (12th November), helped along the way by Stephan Ambrosius (21), Josha Vagnoman (19) and Manuel Wintzheimer (21). Wintzheimer was in the starting eleven for Stefan Kuntz’s team for the first time in his career, and repaid the faith of the 58-year-old, winning a penalty and brushing himself off to convert it in the 42nd minute. First game, first goal for Wintzheimer with Germany’s oldest youth side. Vagnoman and Ambrosius were introduced at the break, the latter making his first-ever appearance for his country. The 21-year-old had a shaky start, causing a penalty in the first minute of the second half which Zan Medyed used to level things up. A less-than-ideal debut for Ambrosius, who was nevertheless thrilled at the end of the match for wearing the famous eagle on his chest for the first time. The trio will be hoping for more game time in the important European qualifier against Wales on Tuesday (17th November) in Braunschweig.
