Elite sport has a long and successful history at HSV. With Olympic athletes, German champions and international successes, the club is one of the most successful multi-sport clubs in Germany. Olympic champions such as beach volleyball player Laura Ludwig and record-holders such as Owen Ansah, who was the first German to run the 100 metres in under ten seconds, have shaped and continue to shape elite sport at the club and epitomise passion, performance and team spirit.
For years, HSV Athletics has been synonymous with top-class performances on the national and international stage. With German championship titles, appearances at the Olympics, international medals and numerous up-and-coming talents, athletics is one of the club’s flagship disciplines. In particular, the three top athletes – Owen Ansah, Lucas Ansah-Peprah and Manuel Mordi – have consistently achieved great success in recent times.
BG Baskets Hamburg represent wheelchair basketball at the very highest level. In the 2nd Bundesliga, they combine sporting excellence with active inclusion and thrill their fans with fast-paced team sport. As an integral part of HSV, BG Baskets demonstrate just how successful and diverse modern competitive sport can be.
Through a targeted youth development programme, HSV creates opportunities for young female footballers and supports them on their journey into competitive women’s football. Thanks to modern training structures, personalised support and a holistic development programme, talented players are nurtured and prepared for the demands of senior-level football.
