2:1! Glatzel's brace secures victory against Hannover 96
Robert Glatzel scores his 20th and 21st goals of the season in the northern duel against the Lower Saxons and allows HSV to jump to a promotion place for the time being. Sebastian Kerk scores for the visitors.
HSV celebrates its fourth win in a row! The Rothosen beat Hannover 96 2:1 (2:1) in front of their home crowd on Saturday (7 May). The 57,000 spectators in the sold-out Volksparkstadion witnessed a gripping match from the very beginning, as the visitors from Lower Saxony also played courageously and with commitment. Robert Glatzel gave Hamburg an early 2:0 lead with a brace (13/20), but Sebastian Kerk brought the score back to 2:0 just two minutes after the second goal (22). The game was exciting until the end, but HSV deserved the three points and climbed to second place in the table for the time being.

Kerk responds to Glatzel's brace
Compared to the away win in Ingolstadt (4:0), head coach Tim Walter had to change one position in his starting eleven. Josha Vagnoman started on the left side of defence in place of Miro Muheim, who was suspended with a yellow card. The starting position was also clear: Due to the 1-2 defeat of Darmstadt 98 in Düsseldorf on Friday, HSV could pass the Lilien in the table with a home win. Accordingly, the Reds started this game with great commitment. Spurred on by the 57,000 spectators in the sold-out Volksparkstadion, the team put the Lower Saxons under pressure early on and created the first scoring chance through Suhonen as early as the second minute. But the Hanoverians also held their own from the start and almost took the lead. Heuer Fernandes was just able to direct Weydandt's shot against the crossbar (4th minute), and the HSV goalkeeper was also able to keep out the 96 striker's 1:1 shot with a brilliant save (12th minute).
Directly after the second big chance of the guests, Glatzel scored the lead for the home side. The top scorer of the Rothosen only had to push Jatta's pinpoint cross over the line with his foot (13.). In the 20th minute, the centre-forward crossed a buttery cross from very close range with his chest to make it 2:0 and the Volkspark was upside down. But the Hanoverians were not impressed by the two-goal lead and Kerk scored the equaliser only two minutes later after a great individual action (22nd). And so, although HSV went into the dressing room with a deserved lead, they could by no means sit back and relax.

HSV misses the third goal
And the Walter protégés didn't do that in the second half either. Spurred on by the vociferous crowd, the Rothosen created more chances, but even the best opportunities through Reis (56th), Jatta (66th), Kaufmann (76th) or Glatzel (77th) were missed to put the lid on the home victory early on. When the substitute Alidou (88th) missed an XXL-chance completely free in front of the goal, it became a nail-biter in the last minutes. Although the defence around captain Schonlau continued to stand firm, Hannover once again put all their eggs in one basket with long balls and pressing. In the end, however, the equaliser did not come and HSV celebrated a narrow but well-deserved home victory against 96 and thus moved up to second place in the table - a promotion place. Accordingly, the team and all the supporters were jubilant after the final whistle.
