2025/26 Bundesliga fixtures announced: HSV begin away in Gladbach before Hamburg derby at the Volksparkstadion
The DFL announced the fixture list for the 2025/26 Bundesliga season on Friday. HSV’s first season following promotion begins away at Borussia Mönchengladbach, before FC St. Pauli and FC Bayern München are the next two opponents for the Rothosen.
After seven years away, HSV are back in the Bundesliga and start the new campaign with a clash between two clubs steeped in tradition. The DFL announced the 2025/26 Bundesliga fixture schedule on Friday, 27 June, handing the Rothosen a trip to face Borussia Mönchengladbach on opening day. Incidentally, the Foals are the last side that HSV faced in the German top flight on 12th May 2018.
Thanks to the great history and tradition of both these clubs, it is definitely a match that will whet the Bundesliga appetite ahead of the first Hamburg derby of the campaign at home to FC St. Pauli on matchday two. The second eagerly anticipated derby against northern rivals Werder Bremen will take place at the beginning of December on matchday 13, while the Rothosen travel to face record German league champions FC Bayern in Munich on matchday three.
“It is obvious that we will only be facing high-quality opponents in the Bundesliga and the case is no different for our opening fixtures so that makes things very exciting,” reported head coach Merlin Polzin, turning attention to that which lies ahead: “We will not only begin our pre-season preparations on Monday full focused but also with a great deal of anticipation.”
