2nd round of DFB Pokal: HSV as guests of RB Leipzig
On Sunday evening, the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal was drawn. HSV was drawn to play away at the defending champions RB Leipzig.
In the second round of the DFB Cup 2022/23, Hamburger SV will play away against defending champions and Bundesliga team RB Leipzig. This was the result of the draw on Sunday evening (4 September) in the course of the ZDF Sportstudio report, which was broadcast live at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The drawer in this case was para-swimmer Josia Topf under the eyes of draw director and DFB President Bernd Neuendorf. The 19-year-old drew the explosive duel between the Red Bulls and the Red Shorts, who last met in the DFB Pokal semi-finals in 2019. On that occasion, Leipzig won 3-1 (1-1) at the Volksparkstadion. "We are travelling to Leipzig full of anticipation. Because it's precisely games and challenges like this that we need in order to get better and continue on our path. Leipzig is of course a difficult opponent, especially as the defending champions, but we want to survive and win there as well," explained HSV coach Tim Walter.
RB Leipzig won 8:0 against regional league team FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen in the first round of the DFB Pokal, while HSV won 3:1 against third league team SpVgg Bayreuth.
The matches of the 2nd round will take place on 18 and 19 October. The exact dates have not yet been set.
