"How it was here today was absolutely crazy"
With more than 20,000 fans behind them, HSV won a difficult away game against Hannover 96 despite playing over half an hour with ten men. The players were resultingly pleased about the performance. Read all the immediate reaction here.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: We had already showed last weekend that we can be solid defensively. That’s what mattered in the last half an hour. We defended and blocked a lot of balls – that’s what it’s about! If you don’t have as much of an attacking threat then you can’t concede any goals at the back. We did that well today and defended unbelievably well as a team. We need this appreciation of wanting to defend. We have also added good lads in this respect who really want to get stuck in and defend well. Our fans were also one of the reasons that we were able to defend this well. That kind of support is not normal, there are no words to describe it, it’s something special. All the fans give us so much strength and support.
Ludovit Reis: At the end of the game, you can see what a great team we are. Everyone runs for each other. It feels like a family. It just feels great. The goal gave us even more strength to defend well and to take the three points home with us. Our fans are amazing. They are always there for us – and us for them!
Jonas Meffert: We are happy, proud and feel fortunate to have got the three points. Obviously, there was a bit of luck involved. The game maybe looked more like a draw, but then again we didn’t give away much when we were a man down. It is good for the team to have kept a clean sheet twice in a row now. That was especially important for our game. It was a bit of a shame for Gui Ramos because he put in some really good challenges before then and had defended really well. That challenge was unlucky, but at the end of the day he did prevent a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity.
“You can clearly see that we are a team where everyone stands up for one another” Tim Walter
Miro Muheim: It was an exhausting game, but one that we finished feeling really good. After the red card and even before then, we did everything not to concede a goal today. The goal from ‘Baka’ gave us a real boost and more energy once again. It felt like a home game today – huge compliments to our away fans.
Jonas Boldt: We put in a very mature performance from the 30th minute. Before then, I feel that Hannover had looked a bit better, but after that we got better and better and had the better chances. Then the red card changed the game, really. After that, I have to give a lot of praise to the team and also to the fans. How it was here today was absolutely crazy. Our fans were man than just the eleventh man and made it like a proper home game.
Tim Walter: You can clearly see that we are a team where everyone stands up for one another, and then that many fans from Hamburg behind us – it’s just stunning. The game was level up until the red card, after that it was a different game. Nevertheless, we stayed compact and played well on the break. Baka showed his strength out of possession and kept stealing possession back, so he deserved to stay on the pitch after the red card. We also have a new goalscorer in him currently.
