HSV to play friendly against Sturm Graz
HSV will depart at the end of their training camp hosted by club partner adidas in Herzogenaurach to head off for a friendly fixture against reigning Austrian league champions SK Sturm Graz.
From 14th to 18th July, Hamburger SV will complete the first of two summer training camps in preparation for the 2025/26 season. The Rothosen will be travelling to Herzogenaurach, where they will be hosted by HSV partner adidas and where head coach Merlin Polzin and his coaching staff will spend five days intensively preparing the squad for the new season. The adidas Homeground, which also served as the Germany national team’s base camp as they hosted the 2024 European Championship, will now hopefully provide the perfect location on and off the pitch for Hamburg to lay the foundation for a successful season.
At the conclusion of this training camp, the Rothosen will subsequently travel around 120 kilometres to Austria on Friday evening, where they will play a special friendly match on Saturday, 19th July, as part of SK Sturm Graz’s season opening celebration. HSV take on one of the best teams in the Austrian Bundesliga 16:00 CEST. 2022 and 2023 saw Graz finish as league runners-up, but they have taken the crown in each of the last two. Sporting director Michael Parensen, who previously played for Borussia Dortmund, FC Köln and Union Berlin, has secured domestic championship glory in both years of tenure since taking over in 2024. The team he has helped put together will pose a real test for HSV, who will then travel back to Hamburg late on Saturday evening following the match and preceding training camp.
