Match Preview vs 1.FC Nürnberg
A chaotic and disappointing matchday 5 is behind us as we head to Bavaria to set things right when we face 1.FC Nürnberg in the Topspiel on Saturday.
The action doesn’t stop or in our case, the drama! Saturday night, Topspiel, under the lights, it’s all being set up once again for an exciting weekend ahead. Looking back on the past few encounters involving HSV and 1.FC Nürnberg, an intense and goal filled evening awaits the 2. Bundesliga viewers. Both teams are coming into this one on that back of mixed league form, Nürnberg with the comeback against Sandhausen, while Darmstadt inflicted a second home defeat for HSV last Friday night. A spectacle awaits!

Our Opponents:
1.FC Nürnberg were one of the more impressive teams last season but fell short towards the end of the season and were nine points away of the play off position at the end of the season. So far this season, only two wins have been recorded with two defeats and a draw making up Der Club’s opening to the 22/23 season. Like last time out in Sandhausen, the other victory for Robert Klauß’ side came in the Frankenderby over recently relegated Greuther Fürth. Der Club have a slight HSV twist to their squad this season. Two signings over the summer sees former HSV players Jan Gyamerah and Manuel Wintzheimer potentially line up against their former teammates at the weekend.

HSV Round Up:
“The team has shown a lot of willingness this week and has trained very well. We are well prepared.” This, Tim Walters answer to how HSV are expected to approach the game given the suspension to in-form, Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer. Following Fridays nights two red cards, Aaron Opoku (five match ban) and Ransi (five match ban) will not be available for selection. Boosted by the return of Bakery Jatta and the first signs of Jean-Luc Dompé, Tim Walter knows he has options and opportunities to change around his squad and tactics if need be. Sonny Kittel made his 100th 2. Bundesliga appearance last time out and like the rest of the team, will be raring to get out again and make Friday’s wrongs right come Saturday evening.

Match Facts:
HSV away with record streak
HSV currently boast a club record in its long history. Hamburg have won seven matches in a row away from home - a streak they have never achieved in professional football since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963! Five of these seven victories were in the 2nd Bundesliga, plus the 3:1 in the DFB Pokal in Bayreuth and the 1:0 in the relegation at Hertha BSC (1:0). Since the 0:1 in Kiel on 10 April of this year, the Rothosen have only celebrated victories away from home - strong!
FCN with HSV touch
Numerous players around the FCN have an HSV past: starting with sporting director Dieter Hecking and co-trainer Sebastian Schweinsteiger (both season 2019/20), players Christian Mathenia (2016-18), Manuel Wintzheimer (2018-22) and Jan Gyamerah (2019-22) were also active for HSV. The latter two players moved from the Elbe to Frankenland for the current 2022/23 season.
Record with HSV
In 85 must-win duels between the two traditional clubs, there have been almost twice as many HSV victories (41) as Nuremberg successes (23). HSV have lost only four of the last 34 encounters, and only one of the last eleven. At the same time, both clubs have won 15 German championships together - actually it should have been 16! In 1922, exactly 100 years ago, the "never-ending" final for the German championship between the two teams took place, with the first final abandoned due to nightfall, as well as the replay, in which the club had only seven players left on the pitch in extra time. HSV were declared champions but relinquished the title.
