Match Preview vs Fortuna Düsseldorf
Topspiel football just doesn’t leave Hamburg as we once again play at home under the Floodlights. Fortuna Düsseldorf are our guests for the occasion.
HSV will face up once again with former trainer Daniel Thioune and his Fortuna Düsseldorf side. Another Saturday night under the lights and what a spectacle that is on offer here. Both squads were highly tipped coming into the season and both seemingly living up to expectations. HSV currently sit in the 2nd position of the 2.Liga table, not far off is Fortuna in 5th place and four points adrift. Last time out Tim Walter’s side managed their first victory over Kiel in the history of the 2.Liga while Fortuna ran out 3-1 winners at home to Hansa Rostock. The home team tends to have the best of this tie going by history. But recent history in the 2.Liga as thrown up three draws in a row. A tight and exciting contest is sure to unload upon the Volkspark surface.

Our Opponents:
Fortuna Düsseldorf are a different animal to the Fortuna that we saw last season. A disappointed first half that was salvaged after the coach change to former HSV trainer, Daniel Thioune. More impressive performances were then rolled out as they finished the season much stronger than expected. Now, fast forward to this season, Fortuna are living up to their early season hype. Sitting in 5th place and only five points from the Top of League, a vast improvement on where Fortuna have sat in the past few 2.Liga seasons. Dawid Kownacki has been firing for the Rheinlander’s with the goals but the team have recently been hit by an injury crisis to a few crucial players. Rouwen Hennings, Daniel Ginczek, Andre Hoffmann just to name a few. Despite this, Fortuna have enough firepower in the cannon to field a dangerous outfit.

HSV Round Up:
Confidence is running through the team and the city at the moment. No better reason than finally leaping over the hurdle that was beating Holstein Kiel in the 2.Bundesliga. Albeit a late shock in two goals for the hosts to try and nick the three points but the three scored earlier by Walter’s men secured the historic and long-waited win over our northern neighbours. “Fortuna is one of the teams that wants to play at the top. We are ready and well prepared.” Was the main topic of the Press Conference as they discussed the strengths of this weekends opponents. As Walter says, we relish the challenge of the more difficult ties in the 2.Liga. No new updates from the squad other than Anssi joined up with the squad in Kiel for the first time this season as he nears his return to the pitch!

Match Facts:

Hamburger SV set a historic second division record with a 3-2 away win in Kiel (7th away win in a row) and also claimed their third league win in a row. 18 points after eight games is HSV's best start in 13 years. The last time Hamburg got off to such a good start was in the 2009/10 Bundesliga season under coach Bruno Labbadia.
The best-attended second division club
HSV fans identify more than ever with the current team, its identity and the path it has taken. With an average of 46,790 spectators, HSV is the best attended second division club in Europe this season. This season, the Volkspark has attracted more spectators on average than ten current Bundesliga teams. More than 45,000 spectators are expected again for the home match against Düsseldorf. Thank you for this unique support!
Fortuna with long dry spell at Volkspark
Fortuna from Düsseldorf have not had good experiences at the Volksparkstadion recently. F95 did not win any of their last ten away games at HSV, 14 of the last 17 games were lost. The last away win at Volkspark was 37 years ago: On 25 May 1985, the Rhinelanders won 2-1 after goals from Andreas Kaiser and Ralf Dusend, with Manfred Kaltz scoring for HSV.
