Match Preview vs Hannover 96
Another game, another Nordduell! HSV make the short trip to Niedersachsen to face Hannover 96 in the 2.Bundesliga clash.
HSV hit two for two in successive home games and with three games to go in the Hinrunde, a team full of confidence and will be looking to establish themselves in a comfortable position come the Winter break.
Hannover are currently in a bit of a windfall with the side currently managerless and sitting relegation play off position in 16th place. Christoph Dabrowski will take charge on an interim basis for the match against HSV as they look to end their poor run on one win in five in all competitions on Sunday afternoon.
It will be another Northern Duel on Sunday. A short trip over to the neighbouring Bundesland of Niedersachsen awaits for HSV and another enthralling Sunday afternoon of 2.Bundesliga should be on the cards.
Opponents Focus:
No wins in the last eight league matches for our Northern Neighbours this season and now currently without a permanent manager. Jan Zimmermann was relived of his duties earlier this week and was replaced on the interim basis by Christoph Dabrowski.
An array of changes in the summer from the side that finished in 13th place in the 2.Bundesliga last season, including the recently outgoing Zimmermann, it just hasn’t seemed to quite click for the Hannover side. Former HSV player Lukas Hinterseer was brought to the club following a stint in South Korea but has yet to strike in the league this season.
That being said, the HSV recent record against our hosts on Sunday has not been one to boast. HSV have not won at the HDI Arena since the 2018 meeting in the Bundesliga. All the more for an exciting match to follow this weekend.
HSV News:
It's now 13 matches unbeaten for the Rothosen as the home stretch before the winter break can be clearly seen. The last away game of the 2021 Calander and the Hinrunde sees the Red Shorts travel to Hannover in a bid to continue this form. Two home wins in a row over Jahn Regensburg and FC Ingolstadt has the spirits high in the Volksparkstadion.
Recent strong performances from our instepping defensive partnership of Goalkeeper Marko Johansson and defender Mario Vuskovic also been regarded as a positive in terms of the squads strength in depth. During the Press conference before the match Tim Walter was questioned over the constant need to change the perosonel with injury but Walter repsonded with "We are constantly adjusting our system. We are currently rewarding ourselves more, but overall it's part of the constant development we are going through this season."
Two home matches follow this Nord Duel with Walters men surely hoping to head in to them with the continued unbeaten run.
The Match Facts :
New 2.Bundsliga Records
Hamburger SV are unbeaten in 13 league games: six wins (including the cup triumph in Nürnberg after a penalty shoot-out) and seven draws. In the 2. Bundesliga the Red Shorts have gone twelve games without defeat - a club-internal 2. Bundesliga record.
Kittel in top form
With 14 scorer points, resulting from four goals and ten assists, midfielder Sonny Kittel is currently in 4th place on the 2. Bundesliga scorers' list. Only Paderborn's Sven Michel (17), St. Pauli's Guido Burgstaller (16) and Darmstadt's Phillip Tietz (15) are ahead of him. The 27-year-old has scored at least one goal in each of the last four league games.
Dangerous from the bench
With only ten goals, Hannover 96 are only just ahead of Ingolstadt (9) in the leagues goals scored table. Despite this fact, however, the Lower Saxons are quite dangerous, and they do so from the bench. The Red’s substitutes have already scored five goals from the bench. For comparison: HSV can boast four goals in this statistic, the best mark is shared by FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Heidenheim, SSV Jahn Regensburg and Holstein Kiel with six goals from the bench each.
