Match Preview vs Hannover 96
It’s that time again, the final home game of the 2021/22 season. Northern neighbours Hannover 96 are heading the Volksparkstadion for a near sold out stadium.
The 2. Bundesliga is heading to a close and we have our final home game of the season against our Northern neighbours Hannover 96.
Hannover are safe from relegation and with a new manager to come in the summer, it’s all about finishing the season strongly from the Niedersachsen side and potentially spoiling some HSV joy.
HSV head into the final two games of the season knowing there is still a chance for promotion, although it’s not quite in the hands of Tim Walter and his sides hands. Three wins in a row could give the side confidence but as the head coach as avidly said, HSV must look after themselves before they rely on other results.

Opponents Focus:
Hannover are safe from the drop or the relegation play off in what has been a poor season from the Niedersachsen side. It was also recently announced that Christoph Dabrowski will be replaced by Stefan Leitl once the season comes to an end. Once his season finishes with Bundesliga side Greuther Fürth.
Dabrowski and his side managed to survive the dreaded drop following an impressive April considering how their season has gone. Only one defeat in the past month has left an eight point gap between themselves and Dynamo Dresden. Three points and a 2-0 victory of Karlsruher rounded that off.
It’s no hiding that HSV haven’t had the best record of late against this weekend’s visitors and Hannover will be looking to end their season on a high, starting on Saturday.

HSV News:
Two matches remain for Head Coach Tim Walter and his Rothosen side. Hannover 96 and Hansa Rostock stand in the way of what could be a potential push to promotion.
Walter has been strict in his approach to the previous and upcoming schedule, HSV must look at themselves before other results. “Of course, we also inform ourselves about the other relevant results, but it is important that we stay with ourselves and do our thing. That's the only thing we can influence.”
Following a yellow card suspension Miro Muheim will be missing from the squad for Saturday’s final home game, other than the long term injuries, a fit squad is at Walter discretion.

The Match Facts :
Best Goal Difference
The Rothosen have won all of their last three league games (3:0 against Karlsruhe, 4:2 in Regensburg, 4:0 in Ingolstadt) and scored an impressive eleven goals in the process. The Walter men have thus increased their own goal tally to 62 - only FC Schalke 04 and SV Darmstadt 98 (67 each) are more accurate. Since Hamburg also have by far the best defence in the 2nd division (only 32 goals conceded), this means a goal ratio of +30 - also top in the league.
Heuer Fernandes vs. Ron-Robert Zieler
An exciting duel between the goalposts: While HSV keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes is the third-best player in the league in the Kicker Ranking with an average mark of 2.74 behind Simon Terodde (2.71) and Patrick Drewes (2.74), opposite number Ron-Robert Zieler has already made ten saves. Only ex-HSV Christian Mathenia (1. FC Nürnberg) has more white waistcoats than the 2014 World Cup winner.
Glatzel following in Barbarez' footsteps
In the 4-0 win in Ingolstadt, HSV won with brains: The first three goals by Kittel, Schonlau and Glatzel all came from headers. The latter scored his 9th goal of the season with his head - the last HSV player to do so was Sergej Barbarez 21 years ago (eleven in the 2000/01 season). Every fourth goal scored by centre-forward Glatzel is headed in. Curious: Hannover 96 have only scored five headed goals as a team.
