Match Preview vs Hannover 96
The international break is over, a what game to get back into the action! The Nordduel awaits on Friday evening.
The international break came at a wrong time for both teams involved in this fixture. Both were heading into very good form ahead of the two week pause of fixtures and will be looking to pick this up against their northern neighbours. HSV against Hannover 96 is always a tasty duel of two of the big northern clubs in Germany, a none better than in a sold out stadium and plenty of HSV away fans. Hannover are unbeaten in six matches, HSV in five, and under Leitl are beginning to gain similar steam HSV achieve under Walter. A whopping Friday night under the lights awaits in Niedersachsen.

Our Opponents:
Although Stefan Leitl endured a sticky start the 2.Liga campaign in his debut Hannover season, it seems he’s starting to tighten the reins and bring some success to this side. A team that since the last relegation from the Bundesliga have struggled and not provided their fans with much entertainment. The Summer recruitment that started with Leitl making the switch from Greuther Fürth to Niedersachsen was also strong and a big reason this side is clicking. Havard Nielsen is scoring for fun while Fabian Kunze and Max Besuschkow have tightened the defensive midfield options. Last time out, a tight but impressive victory away at SV Sandhausen with a 2-3 scoreline in favour of Friday nights hosts.

HSV Round Up:
Following a toughly contested bounce match against FC Nordsjaelland, 2-2 with goals from youngster Tom Sanne and Anssi Suhonen, HSV will finally return to league action. Four wins on the trot and sitting at the top of the tree heading into this Nordduel will be exactly what the HSV would be looking for after a strong start to this season. “ Anyone who has seen us at home and away this season knows that we have created something. We have created an identity.” The statement from Tim Walter in the Wednesday afternoon Press Conference highlighting he is happy with where the team is at currently and this identity has definitely shown through in the past few games. Squad news Jean-Luc Dompé is on the sidelines after injuring himself in training last week.

Match Facts:
Historic defensive performance
As in the previous season, HSV is very stable defensively. With only 5 goals conceded, the Red Shorts currently have the best defense in the 2nd division. In 9 games, they have also scored 6 times. Never before in 60 years of professional soccer has HSV been more compact at the back; only in the 2005/06 season were there also only 5 goals conceded in the first 9 games of the season in the Bundesliga.
Best goalkeepers in the league
With Daniel Heuer Fernandes and his counterpart Ron-Robert Zieler, the statistically best keepers of the 2nd division meet. "Ferro" has the league's top score so far with 88.9% of shots on goal saved. Zieler ranks second behind him with 78.6% of balls held.
Reis faces anniversary
Ludovit Reis is about to play his 50th competitive match for HSV. So far, the 22-year-old Dutchman has made 43 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga (including relegation) and 6 in the DFB Pokal. This season, he has also always been in the starting eleven and missed a total of just 13 minutes of play (only vs. D98 was he substituted in the 77th minute). In the process, the Dutch U21 international recorded 2 goals and 1 assist. Ludo also impresses with his commitment: with 99.99 km (= ø 11.31 km/game, league-wide), he is the HSV player with the most runs so far this season.
