Match Preview vs 1.FC Heidenheim
It’s a big one. 2nd verses 3rd in the 2. Bundesliga topspiel of the week. HSV travel to face 1. FC Heidenheim.
The month of February begins to heat up. With some tasty fixtures coming the way of HSV this month, the first one starts on Saturday evening. HSV as the best away team in the league will travel to play 1.FC Heidenheim, the current best home team in the 2. Liga. The late night kick off under the lights is always a spectacle in itself, even more so when two form teams face off against one another. The last fixture was a tough, as expected, affair with HSV running out 1-0 winners at the Volksparkstadion thanks to a Robert Glatzel header.

Our Opponents:
Heidenheim and in recent years shot there way into the conversation of a stable 2. Liga club. Now it’s more like a top consistent 2. Liga club, that is there or there abouts in challenging for those promotion places. Once again, long serving coach Frank Schmidt is performing up to the standards that fans at the Voith-Arena are now surely expecting from Heidenheim. Although a defeat was the story last weekend against Eintracht Braunschweig, it would be unfair to assume this means a dip of form in the Heidenheim camp. The team are yet to lose at home this season, with only Arminia Bielefeld and Kaiserslautern lucky enough to take home a point. With dangerous players like top goalscorer Tim Kleindienst and Jan-Niklas Beste at their disposal, its always a trick game against our hosts at the weekend.

HSV Round Up:
In what has been an eventful week, HSV focus an all things football come Saturday evening when we face off against Heidenheim. Tim Walter stated in the press conference about our opponents, “It's a tough course, because Heidenheim is very strong at home. But we are also strong away from home and so confident that we want to win there. We'll throw everything in!” Looking at the personnel after being asked about Jonas David and Jonas Meffert, our coach stated he is happy with the replacements there should any be necessary on Saturday evening.

Match Facts:
Running Every Year
1. FC Heidenheim has always been defined by commitment and passion - which can also be seen in the running data. Last season 2021/22, the team of head coach Frank Schmidt finished in first place in the running table (4,070 kilometres), HSV followed in second place (3,980). And this season, the team from the Brenzstadt is once again the league's most athletic team: 2,288 kilometres run mean the clear top spot, while the Rothosen are in 7th place with 2,170 kilometres. However, it is important to remember that HSV's possession-oriented style of play logically produces less mileage than Heidenheim's counter-attacking tactics. But it will be intense either way!
Clean Sheets reloaded
HSV keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes was particularly happy about the 2-0 away win in Rostock (5 February). For: The HSV keeper was able to record a clean sheet for the first time since 17 September 2022 (2:0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf). Since the home win against the Rhinelanders, the Rothosen have always conceded at least one goal in ten competitive matches in a row, and "Ferro" has had to make 20 saves in this period. Interesting: In the past four games against 1. FC Heidenheim, Hamburg have not conceded a single goal. That gives us justified hope for the second "to nil" in a row!
Bobby back at the Brenz
Robert "Bobby" Glatzel will never forget his time at 1. FC Heidenheim (2017 to 2019). At the Brenz, the centre-forward established himself as a goal-scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga and, after 17 goals in 55 second-division games, moved to Cardiff City for a reported €6 million. To date, the 29-year-old is the most expensive departure in the history of the FCH club. Since the summer of 2021, however, Glatzel has been very successful in the hunt for goals for HSV - and has delivered personal record figures this season: 13 goals in the season after 19 match days are just as much a record as 72 shots on goal and an xGoals value of 15. Incidentally, in the 1:0 first leg victory, the number 9 of the Red Shorts scored the golden goal and thus scored for the first time against his beloved former club. A repeat performance is welcome!
