Match Preview vs Jahn Regensburg
The international break is over and we are back at home! Jahn Regensburg are our visitors to the Volksparkstadion for the Saturday afternoon kick off!
It's felt like another long two weeks since our last competive game. Karlruher SC were the last opponents for HSV where a 1-1 draw was taken from the trip to Baden. The international break is over and all of our U21 representatives are back in training this week ahead of Saturday’s game.
Der Jahn will also be boosted after this international break after there promising start to the season, their form started to take an decline before we wrapped up two weeks ago. The Bavarian side sit pretty in 2nd position heading to the Volksparkstadion and could even finish the weekend top of tree should results go their way.
Two teams that enjoy to use the ball and play the football the way everyone wants to watch. An exciting game is in prospect.

Opponents Focus:
It would not be discriminating to state how surprising it has been to see Jahn have this incredible start to the season. A well deserved start too. A side that narrowly avoided facing the drop last year, there has been a resurgence this year and are a completely different outfit. Currently sitting 2nd in 2.Bundesliga under Mersad Selimbegovic, who has got Der Jahn playing an exciting and importantly for their fans, a successful way.
The main focus of this start has to be some of the players that have consistently turned up for Der Jahn this season. Max Besuschkow has 5 goals to this name this season, while Captain Benedikt Gimber also playing his hand in 5 goals this season writing his name on the score sheet 3 times. Both are Central midfielders too. Sarpreet Singh perhaps the most notable and the player to watch is also enjoying a fairly exciting season. The on-loan Bayern München prospect has played his way in eight goals this season, scoring four and grabbing four assists.

HSV News:
Tim Walter will be excited to get back to league action following the international break but the injury table unfortunately keeps getting bigger, especially in the defensive side. During the break, Jonas David has been ruled out for a few weeks while Daniel Heuer Fernandes. The usual injury names also remain out.
Five of our first team stars return from their respective national teams in high spirits. Tommy Doyle (England), Ludovit Reis (Netherlands), Anssi Suhonen (Finland), Mario Vuskovic (Croatia) and Faride Alidou (Germany) all had successful times away over the international break and returned to the Volksparkstadion for training this week.

The Match Facts:
Trio on the Goal Front
Although the Rothosen have created the most big chances in the league this season, they have only scored 20 goals (6th place) after 13 matchdays. Robert Glatzel (6), Moritz Heyer (5) and Sonny Kittel (3) account for 14 of these 20 goals and thus 70 percent of Hamburg's goal tally. The trio would like to add to their tally against Regensburg. Centre-forward Glatzel in particular has good memories of SSV - with three goals and two assists so far, he has not scored better against any other second-division team.
Strong Jahn Midfield
With 29 goals, Regensburg have the second-best offence in the league behind SV Darmstadt 98 (31). Midfielders account for a whopping 18 goals for the Upper Palatinate side - no other Second Division team can boast a better figure in this respect. Particularly striking are the central midfielders Max Besuschkow (five goals, two assists) and Benedikt Gimber (three goals, two assists), who form a playful double six that can also provide danger in the opponent's final third.
A Speed Race
Bakery Jatta and Jan-Niklas Beste are among the top sprinters in the league. While the HSV winger attracts 33 sprints per game, it is 36 for the SSV left-back. In terms of top speed, the Gambian is again slightly ahead with 35.0 km/h. Beste, who moved to Regensburg on loan from SV Werder Bremen in 2020 and is still under contract until the summer of 2022, has a top speed of 34.0 km/h. If there is a direct duel between the two on the left side of the Jahn defence, top speeds are guaranteed.
