Match Preview vs Jahn Regensburg
Back to league action, we head to Bavaria where we will take on Jahn Regensburg in 31st matchday of the 2. Bundesliga season!
After the highs and lows of playing and exited the DFB Pokal semi final last Tuesday, 19th April. Our heads firmly face south and back on the league action.
HSV will have their heads raised high coming into this with the 3-0 victory over Karlsruher SC last weekend, whilst having a positive performance in the 3-1 defeat to Bundesliga side SC Freiburg in the DFB Pokal Semi Final.
Before the sides last met the Jahnelf had experienced a very, very good opening to the season but suffered defeat when they visited the Volksparkstadion in the last meeting between the sides. A 4-1 victory with four difference HSV scorers with Ludo Reis, Sonny Kittel, Faride Alidou and Anssi Suhonen getting their names onto the scoresheet.

Opponents Focus:
Before HSV had faced Jahn Regensburg in the Hinrunde, they were absolutely flying with very few defeats in the 2021/22 season. Following a very strong start, Selimbegovic and his side were riding high at the top of the 2. Bundesliga.
Regensburg have had their season peter out following their very impressive hinrunde the performance which had the Bayern side in the top 3 for long spells earlier this season. While relegation worries will not be a threat to the Jahnelf this season, Selimbegovic’s side will be wanting to round of their season on a high.
Regensburg have drawn their last three matches 1-1 and will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday following their last victory over SC Paderborn.

HSV News:
HSV will be rejuvenated after two disappointing results against Paderborn and Kiel with their performance against SC Freiburg in the Pokal semi final as well as the 3-0 victory over Karlsruher SC at home last weekend.
Heading into the last run in of the season, in the press conference on Thursday Head Coach, Tim Walter spoke about the importance of a full team on no reliance on certain individuals. “We always play with eleven men on the pitch. We are a team of 22 players and four goalkeepers. Many, many people make HSV dependent on individual players. I don't do that”

The Match Facts :
Selimbegovic still winless against Walter
Since the summer of 2019, Mersad Selimbegovic has been on the sidelines at SSV Jahn Regensburg as head coach, seamlessly continuing the good work of his predecessor (Achim Beierlorzer). The Bosnian embodies the Jahn DNA like no other (at the club since 2006) and has scored exactly 120 points (1.22 per game) in 98 two-league games since taking up his post. However, the 39-year-old is still waiting for a successful experience against HSV coach Tim Walter: In September 2019, he lost 3-2 against VfB Stuttgart, who were coached by Walter at the time, and the first leg in November 2021 even ended with a 4-1 defeat.
Long shots vs. headers
Regensburg have scored 10 times from outside the penalty area. That means the top rank in the 2nd league. HSV play their way into the penalty area most of the time. Only two teams have taken fewer shots on goal from outside the penalty area than the Rothosen (140). However, seven of the 140 attempts hit the target.
In terms of goals scored from headers, both teams are tied with twelve goals each (second in the league). However, Regensburg needed 100 attempts to score, while HSV was slightly more efficient with 85 attempts.
Kittel before HSV compulsory match number 100
Sonny Kittel is facing an anniversary match: the midfielder could make his 100th appearance in a competitive match for HSV on Saturday. Since his move from FC Ingolstadt 04 to the Elbe in the summer of 2019, no Hamburg player has been more successful in front of the opposition's box: Kittel has scored 29 goals and set up another 31 in that time. With 104 goals (51 goals, 53 assists), the native of Giessen is one of the best offensive players in the 2. Bundesliga.
