Matheo Raab moves to 1. FC Union Berlin
26-year-old goalkeeper departs HSV after three years to sign for league rivals from the capital.
HSV goalkeeper Matheo Raab has joined 1. FC Union Berlin with immediate effect. The 26-year-old has opted for a new challenge with a year left on his contract at HSV. “Matheo came to us and requested to change clubs. Over the past three years, he has always been dedicated to the team and has been a reliable presence in goal. For that reason, we worked together to find a solution that works for everyone, and we wish him all the best for a successful time in Berlin,” said director of football Claus Costa.
Raab joined HSV from 1. FC Kaiserslautern for the 2022/23 season and played 22 competitive games for the Rothosen, 18 of which in the league and the other four in the DFB-Pokal. “I had three very intense years at HSV. My time here was filled with many highs, but also some setbacks, like last year with several injuries. Still, the moment of promotion certainly overshadows everything. Achieving that with HSV and experiencing it will stay with me for life. I will always have a place for this club in my heart, and I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, staff and of course, the amazing fans. See you in the Bundesliga!” commented Raab.
